Settling into Hong Kong Life

What a crazy, exciting, daunting and surreal first week it has been…Within the first 24 hours, I knew Hong Kong was one of kind, like no place on earth, completely unique in it’s own peculiar and unexpecting ways.
My first time ever visiting Asia, and here I am to stay, in Hong Kong for the next two months!
There have been so many adjustments to make, including the time zone, culture shock, weather (so far we have been extremely lucky with beautiful sunshine!) and the language barrier to name a few. But, I can already tell my time here will be full of amazing (and maybe even quite strange) experiences that I will never forget.

The bright lights and buzz of the city, from dawn to dusk makes this place almost indescribable. Living in the more traditional and local district of Hung Hom (Kowloon), and travelling twenty minutes on the MTR to Central (Hong Kong Island), feels like a transportation to another world. I feel as though Central may be our little slice of Westernised comfort when times may get tough in the next few weeks.

After travelling thousands of miles across the world, settling into our new home, and getting to grips with Hong Kong life all in just seventy-two hours, we started our internship with Clover Group International Ltd. My new job role for the next 4 weeks as 'Technical Design Intern' seems to be settling in well, soaking up lots of invaluable and useful information as I begin to understand the foundations of the business and my role within the Technical Design department to support that. I already feel as though I am pushing the boundaries of my studies from university, applying it directly to a job role in the industry, I can’t wait to see where the next few weeks will take me in my learning!

I have to say my highlights for this first week have to be our first time crossing the harbour from Central (Hong Kong Island) to Kowloon on the Star Ferry, and evening rooftop cocktails at C'est La Vie in Lan Kwai Fong to celebrate our first week. The view really does take your breath away every time, as I watched the sunset on the harbour’s horizon, and the glimmer of lights across the skyline, it really puts everything in to perspective.
Yes, I am so far away from home, but wow, how lucky I am to be here.
